What is Energy Saving? What is Energy Efficiency?
Energy Saving means using less energy to protect the environment and natural resources.
Despite being crucial for the progress of companies and development of countries by generating employment and investment possibilities, energy is one of the sectors that causes pollution the most.
Because of the effects and worries caused by climate change and global warming, people are realizing the significance of wasteful energy consumption and energy conservation. Because of this, the 2nd week of January is also being celebrated as Energy Conservation week.
In this regard, energy saving represents a benefit for both protecting nonrenewable resources and the environment.
The aim of energy saving is to provide as much benefit as possible for the society while using energy as minimum as possible.
What can be done for Energy Conservation?
- Pulling out the plugs when not using electronic devices
- Using devices/lamps with energy saver modes/properties
- Efficient use of air conditioning
- Favoring clean energy sources like sunlight
- Having a programmable thermostat
- Reducing the water heating costs
- Changing or cleaning air filters
- Using natural light
While being very important in our daily lives, energy conservation is also important in industry plants, which use the majority of energy consumed. In Turkiye, 41% of energy is used in industrial plants, 31% in buildings and 20% in transportation. The energy consumption in industrial plants is equal to 3.7 million tonnes of petrol. Using high efficiency illumination systems, optimizing them and maintaining the electronic devices can save up to 30% energy.
With energy conservation, you can save the environment and resources while also cutting costs in these challenging economic conditions.
What is the Difference between Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency?
Although Energy Saving and energy efficiency are related, they have differences.
Increasing energy efficiency means reducing the energy needed for a service. Efficiency is one of the best ways to combat climate change, reducing costs for consumers and increasing the competency of businesses.
As for Energy Saving, it stands in the core of many benefits of energy efficiency. It is also related to many economic, social and environmental benefits.
When analyzing global energy efficiency statistics, the most significant international framework is the recent COP28 global pledge, which serves as a unified action plan for the worldwide energy transition. Instead of a localized approach, this mandate focuses on implementing comprehensive measures across all major global sectors—such as buildings, transportation, and heavy industry.
By scaling up these actions, the world aims to double the global average annual rate of energy efficiency improvements from 2% to 4% by 2030. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), achieving this target requires global annual investments in energy efficiency to triple, reaching $1.8 trillion per year by 2030, up from the current baseline of approximately $600 billion.
Considering our most used energy resources are limited, it is important to conserve energy as much as possible, both in our personal lives and industrial use.
Energy Saving is important to comply with the legal necessities, in light of rising energy costs and environmental factors. As Grup Arge, consistent with our vision, we provide an Energy Monitoring System to monitor your energy consumption in your plant anywhere while foreseeing reactive power penalties or electrical instabilities. Thus, you can gain complete control over your plant, cut costs and contribute to energy efficiency.
